SURGERIES
Lumbar disc herniation surgery
Surgery is done to relieve the pressure that a herniated disc (also called a displaced, ruptured or bulged disc, or prolapsed disc) puts on a spinal nerve. A herniated disc occurs when some of the softer material within the disc passes through a crack into the harder outer layers.
Your doctor may recommend surgery if:
You have trouble standing or walking because of weak nerves.
Conservative treatment, such as physical therapy or steroid injections, does not improve your symptoms after 6 to 8 weeks.
Pain that spreads from the lower back to the buttocks and legs becomes very difficult to control.
Herniated cervical disc surgery
When the hernia affects the mobility of the hand or arm (cervical disc herniation) it is a clear sign that it is damaging the nerve that allows this movement, so it is advisable to intervene to try to protect this function; If the pain is not tolerable, it is not relieved with drugs or physical therapy and it prevents you from leading a normal life, the possibility of intervening without waiting the stipulated 6 or 8 weeks is also considered.
Endoscopic spine surgery
Minimally invasive surgery allows a patient to go home within 24 hours after an intervention.
Do as little damage as possible to the tissues surrounding the area to be operated on and therefore provide the patient with the best possible recovery, these are the main advantages of minimally invasive surgery whose main difference from the traditional one is that the incisions are minimal and therefore the patient recovers his normal life more quickly and with less pain.
Spinal pathologies are the main beneficiaries of this technique applied to neurosurgery.
Lumbar spine instrumentation
Cervical spine instrumentation
It is used when there are several herniated lumbar discs. Also when the hernia is combined with problems such as spondylolysis or spondylolisthesis.
It consists of the placement of surgical instruments to definitively fix the affected area.
Instrumentation techniques allow surgical treatment of the cervical spine that achieves immediate immobilization, with a shorter and less painful postoperative compared to the traditional approach.
